How to choose a fish tank water pump?

1. Choose the right pump power
Factors to consider when choosing a pump include: the size of the fish tank, the form of filtration, the richness of the filter material, the breeding density, the size of the fish, the type of fish, etc. Generally speaking, the larger the fish tank capacity, the less and simpler the filter material, the greater the breeding density, the larger the fish, and the faster the metabolism of the fish species, the larger the pump power needs to be.

2. Configure the pump according to the size of the tank
When raising medium and large fish in a finished tank with common top sink filtration, it is more appropriate to configure a 25-watt pump for every 100 liters of water in the tank capacity. For example, if the length of the fish tank is 1.2 meters, the width is 0.35 meters, and the water level is 0.5 meters, then the water capacity of the fish tank is 1.2*0.35*0.5*1000=210 (liters), then you can consider equipping it with two pumps of about 25 watts, or a single pump of about 45 watts. You can also consider dividing it into two outlets, one to create flow directly in the tank, and the other to introduce water into the top sink for filtration.

3. Breeding density.
At present, the matching water pumps of the finished tanks sold on the market are mostly small in power and simple in filter materials, and the general water pumps cannot reach the rated power and flow rate indicated on them. When raising fish, most novices prefer a larger breeding density and feeding frequency (hoping that the fish will grow up quickly), but they find that the fish start to get sick and die not long after being raised. A big reason is that they don’t understand that the breeding density, species, and feeding frequency need to match the size of the tank and the strength of the filtration system. An important way to improve the filtration system is to re-match your fish tank with a suitable water pump.
